Laura Jane Willoughby is a journalist and nonfiction writer with a portfolio that spans a 20-year career. Her award-winning journalism has appeared in The Baltimore Sun, Howard Magazine, The Post & Courier (Charleston), The Capital (Annapolis, MD), true mag, and others. She began her career in broadcast journalism at WCBD-TV2 in Charleston, SC.

She is a participatory journalist who has been immersed in the Sanctuary Movement at the Southern and Northern borders and in the interior United States since 2018. She has a B.A. in Media Communications and a minor in Latin American Affairs from the College of Charleston. She holds an MFA in Nonfiction from Goucher College, where she was the recipient of the 2020 Christine White award for literary journalism.
